After a giraffe was discovered with metal wire dangerously wrapped around its neck in Mikembo Sanctuary, Democratic Republic of the Congo, a team of rescuers banded together to tranquilize and capture the large animal, and remove the wire.

After tranquilizing it with a powerful opioid, the team worked to trip the animal. Once on the ground, a veterinarian removed the wire and gave a few shots, including anti-parasitic medicine and a vitamin injection. Workers from the sanctuary report that the giraffe appears to be doing well and in good health.
