Offshore Earthquake Near Los Angeles Measures at 5.3

An offshore earthquake rattled the shores of Southern California on April 5th. Shortly after noon, the quake registered at a preliminary magnitude of 5.3. The US Geological Survey tracked the epicenter offshore, about 35 miles southwest of the Channel Islands, and 86 miles west of Los Angeles. But the sizable quake rippled beyond Los Angeles county, hitting Santa Barbara up north and Orange County to the south. According to reports, people felt the quake throughout Southern California. But it did not persist, and shook the land with one noticeable quake.
