Tamil Nadu: Professor held for ‘luring girls’, governor orders high-level probe

Seven hours after they knocked on the doors of assistant professor Nirmala Devi, who allegedly tried to lure some girl students to do sexual favours for higher officials in Madurai Kamaraj University (MKU), police broke into the house and arrested her. She was taken to the Aruppukkottai town police station. While Tamil Nadu Higher Education Minister Anbazhagan promised stringent action in the matter, Governor Banwarilal Purohit, the Chancellor of the University, ordered a high-level inquiry into the matter by a retired IAS officer, R. Santhanam.
